Program Details

At Bay Area Barber College, our programs are designed to prepare you for a successful career in barbering and cosmetology. Below are the details for our Texas Class A Barber License, Cosmetology License, and Cosmetology to Barber Crossover programs, including clock hours, program length, and course descriptions, all aligned with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) standards.

Cosmetology to Barber Crossover

The Cosmetology to Barber Crossover program is a 300-hour course tailored for individuals who hold an active Texas Cosmetology Operator License and wish to obtain a Class A Barber License. The curriculum focuses on barber-specific skills, building on existing cosmetology knowledge through a mix of 25 hours of theory and 275 hours of practical training.

Clock Hours and Program Length

Clock Hours: 300 hours
Program Length:
- Full-Time: Approximately 8 weeks (based on 40 hours per week)
- Part-Time: Approximately 15 weeks (based on 20 hours per week)
Note: This shorter program is designed for licensed cosmetologists seeking to expand their skills to include barbering services.

Key Topics Include:

Barber-Specific Techniques:
- Men’s haircutting and tapering (165 hours of practical work)
- Shaving, mustache, and beard trimming/design (85 hours of practical work)
- Review of hair coloring, permanent waving, relaxing, facials, and manicuring (5 hours each)
Theory Topics (25 hours):
- History of barbering
- Texas barber laws and rules
- Implements, honing, and stropping
- Anatomy and physiology review
- Blow-dry styling, shampooing, and conditioning review
Practical Training: Hands-on practice with mannequins and real clients to master barbering techniques.
State Board Preparation: Training for TDLR written and practical exams to ensure licensure readiness.

This program allows licensed cosmetologists to quickly gain barbering expertise, opening doors to new career opportunities in barbershops or dual-service salons.
