Program Details

At Bay Area Barber College, our programs are designed to prepare you for a successful career in barbering and cosmetology. Below are the details for our Texas Class A Barber License, Cosmetology License, and Cosmetology to Barber Crossover programs, including clock hours, program length, and course descriptions, all aligned with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) standards.

Texas Cosmetology License

The Cosmetology License program is a 1,000-hour course that prepares students for the TDLR Cosmetology Operator License exam. This program covers a broad range of beauty services, blending theory and practical training to develop versatile skills for careers in salons, spas, or independent practice.

Clock Hours and Program Length

Clock Hours: 1,000 hours
Program Length:
- Full-Time: Approximately 25–30 weeks (based on 34–40 hours per week)
- Part-Time: Approximately 40–50 weeks (based on 20–25 hours per week)
Note: Similar to the barber program, cosmetology program lengths depend on scheduling and student availability.

Key Topics Include:

Hair Services: Haircutting, hairstyling, hair coloring, chemical waving, relaxing, and hair extensions.
Skin and Nail Care: Facials, skin care treatments, waxing, manicuring, pedicuring, and artificial nails.
Theory and Science: Anatomy and physiology, chemistry of hair and skin products, bacteriology, sterilization, and sanitation.
Professional Skills: Customer service, professional ethics, business management, and Texas cosmetology laws and rules.
Specialty Practices: Eyelash extensions, makeup application, and advanced chemical services.
State Board Preparation: Focused training for TDLR written and practical exams, emphasizing safety and licensing requirements.
