Admissions and Enrollment

General Admissions Requirements

To enroll in any program at Bay Area Barber College, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Be at least 16 years old.

  • Education: Possess a high school diploma, GED, or a home school certificate/transcript from a state-recognized home study program equivalent to high school level.

    • Bay Area Barber College accepts only standard, verifiable high school diplomas.

    • For foreign high school diplomas, applicants must provide an English translation and confirmation of U.S. high school equivalency from an external agency. Applicants are responsible for all associated fees and ensuring documentation is submitted.

  • Documentation:

    • Submit a copy of a high school diploma, transcript, or equivalent (e.g., GED).

    • Provide two identical 2" x 2" photos (one for the student permit book, one for the workstation permit display).

    • Submit a copy of a government-issued photo ID and Social Security Card (if applicable).

  • Cosmetology to Barber Crossover Program:

    • Applicants must hold a current Texas Cosmetology License and provide a copy.

Title IV Financial Aid Eligibility

To qualify for federal financial aid (Title IV) at Bay Area Barber College, applicants must meet these requirements:

  • Be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible program.

  • Demonstrate financial need.

  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress (refer to our Satisfactory Progress Statement).

  • Not be in default on a National Direct Student Loan (NDSL), Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL), or PLUS/SLS Loan.

  • Not owe a refund on a Pell Grant or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG).

  • Sign a statement acknowledging responsibilities regarding Federal Student Aid funds, noting that loans must be repaid.

  • For male applicants, sign a statement of registration status (Form 3) confirming registration with the Selective Service, if required.

Support for Students with Disabilities

Bay Area Barber College welcomes students with disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, provided they meet the general admissions requirements. Special accommodation requests must be:

  • Submitted in writing.

  • Documented by a physician.

The school director evaluates applications to ensure all students, including those with disabilities, can benefit from our training programs.

Transfer of Clock Hours

Bay Area Barber College accepts transfer clock hours from:

  • Institutions licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

  • Out-of-state licensed institutions, provided a transcript is submitted, evaluated, and approved by TDLR for transferable clock hours.

The program length and tuition will be adjusted based on the number of approved transfer clock hours, calculated per clock hour charges. Note that clock hours earned at Bay Area Barber College may not be accepted by other institutions, as transferability is at the discretion of the receiving school.
